ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The APT Constitution specifies that the general membership shall elect members of a Governance Committee during annual business meetings. Members of the Governance Committee shall be elected to staggered three-year terms, with the exception of one non-elected member who is selected for a one-year term by that year’s Program Committee. Officers are limited to two consecutive full terms in the same office.

The Constitution calls upon the APT Governance Committee to nominate at least two individuals for each seat to be elected by the general membership.  The Constitution directs the Governance Committee to seek nominations from the Association’s members at least five months before the election. From that pool of nominees, the Committee then shall propose a slate of candidates to the membership at large. Candidates not included in the proposed slate may petition to be added to the slate, either by written petition up to one month before the election or by nomination from the floor at the meeting itself.

Elections take place at the annual business meeting. All members of APT attending the business meeting are eligible to vote in the election.

For details on election requirements and procedures, see the APT Constitution.

AMENDMENTS

The APT Constitution also allows any member of the Association to submit at any time recommendations for amendments to the Constitution to the Governance Committee Chair, who may or may not submit the matter to the whole Committee for consideration. In the case of a recommendation not being forwarded to or endorsed by the Governance Committee, the Constitution also allows for recommendations for amendments to be submitted by petition of 10% or more of the general membership to the Committee as a whole, via the Executive Co-Directors.
